I never had one of the prepackaged Easter baskets, so I’m a fan of the uniquely curated baskets. In a pinch, I wouldn’t hesitate to go the prepackaged route, but I’ve been scouring Amazon for some of the best basket stuffers so you don’t have to. In full disclosure, I haven’t purchased everything on this list, but I’m a review reading nerd so I’m confident in these brands and choices. Everything on the list is Amazon Prime eligible. I’ve provided a ton of Easter Basket candy alternatives, but I’ve included a few of my favorite sugary goodies for good measure. Moderation is the key. Right? If you restrict sugar too much you’ll end up with a 19-year-old kid who buys the multi-serving size bag of candy, eats it all in one sitting and hides the evidence behind his dresser. Trust me I know.
Easter Basket: The Basics
Before we get into the fun stuff, I wanted to share a few links to baskets, filler “grass” and the plain old plastic eggs.
Easter Basket: Candy Egg Alternatives
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles – You get a sweet dozen of these little eggs. All I know is that my 5-year-old niece is a fan of these things.
Easter Eggs Filled with Plush Bunny – These are so cute and are a great alternative to candy-filled eggs in an Easter basket or for an Easter Egg hunt.
Easter Egg Sidewalk Chalk – What kid doesn’t like to make a chalky abstract mural in the driveway?
Play-Doh Spring Eggs – This is packaged as three sets of four eggs, so you get 12 total. A good option if you have a few kiddos or are hosting a party. If you want fewer eggs, here is a link for one pack.
Easter Basket: Crafts
Owl Candle Holder Painting Craft – This is a cute craft idea, and it would be great for an older kid. Most reviews were positive, but there was a common theme among the negative feedback. Some people thought that there wasn’t enough paint and that the color options were disappointing. If you are a crafty household that has other paints on hand, this won’t be much of an issue.
Melissa & Doug On the Go Friendship Bracelet Craft Set – This one is really tugging on my memories. My sister used to crank these things out like it was her job. I’m happy to see the tradition being carried on. Great craft for the older kids.
Melissa & Doug Butterfly Magnets – These Melissa & Doug characters really have their act together. They have a ton of crafts and projects out there and they have great reviews. This kit is cute and very reasonably priced.
Melissa & Doug Design Your Own Bracelets – Sparkles, stickers, jewelry. Need I say more? They recommend this for 3+, so it is a good craft for those little rascals.
Melissa & Doug Wooden Race Car Craft Kit – Like the packaging says “customize your ride.” This seems like a gateway gift for a future Cub Scout who will almost certainly take part in the Pinewood Derby. There is also a Monster Truck Craft Kit, which is even cuter in my opinion.
Melissa & Doug Simply Crafty Superhero Masks and Cuffs Kit – This is a cute activity for a little superhero. It is also not pink, purple or sparkly which is hard to find if your kid isn’t into that stuff.
Easter Basket: Activities
Melissa & Doug On the Go Water Wow Activity Books – These things look like great Easter Basket stuffers for younger kids. They come in a couple of different sets and you can find some that are individual. The reviews are great for these, however, there is a common theme among the one and two-star reviews. Some of the pens appear to leak and there are complaints of the durability of the books (water soaking the edges, “paint” rubbing off after a few uses, etc.). If you go into it thinking, “If this can keep Junior occupied for two hours overall, it was worth it,” then, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
- Fairy Tale, Makeup & Animal
- Vehicle & Animals
- Dinosaur, Adventure & Animal
- Farm, Safari & Under the Sea
Melissa & Doug Magic Velvet Coloring Books – These look good for the slightly older kids.
Coloring Books – Sometimes you just can’t beat a good coloring book. While researching options on Amazon, it occurred to me that the unifying factor for children across generations is the hilarity of farts. You’ll see why below.
- Unicorns Farting Coloring Book
- The Farting Animals Coloring Book
- The Unicorn Coloring Book (no farts)
- Fashion Angels Make-up & Hair Design Sketch Portfolio
- Art With Edge: Avengers Infinity Wars
Easter Basket: Children’s Books
I started out with a whole list of books in this section and came to realize that I had so many that they could be their own list. Please visit the Children’s Book Picks list to find some of my favorites for any gifting occasion!
Easter Basket: Non-Candy Treats
I thought I would throw in a few edible options that are not candy-related. Just the basic stuff. These come in sets of twelve so they could be good for a party or after school snacks
Easter Basket: CANDY!!!!!
We’ve finally reached the end of our Easter basket journey. I thought we could wrap it up with some of the sweet stuff. I want to apologize in advance for the unicorn and bunny farts. Just think about how funny kids would find it and the stories you could tell about that trickster of an Easter bunny. I tried to find links with lower quantities, so keep an eye on that if you order anything.
